Review: Stick House, Doha

What is it about ice cream that can magically lift your mood? Weather aside, we can have spoonfuls (read:bucketfuls) of ice-cream, no matter what the occasion may be.

A little bit of everything

On one such day, we stumbled upon a beautifully quaint ice cream shop here in Doha, very reminiscent of summer breaks in Europe when an ice-cream stop was a completely valid reason to take a break.

Stick House, located at Gold Souq  (with other branches around the city) is small and cozy in its appearance, with ample seating within the Souq. Don't be fooled by its size, it houses many different and unique gelato-based ice-sticks within.

We asked for suggestions, and were told that the pomegranate ice stick was the most popular, so we decided to try that out first . The tangy fruitiness softly cuts through the freshness of the flavor. For those of you who like sour fruits, this is a must try.

The range truly surprised us, almost enviable in its mix and match of fruits and chocolates. 

Chocolate Goodness

Nothing can go wrong when there's Nutella in it. They have a good range of chocolate flavors but we really couldn't get past the Nutella flavor (Who can?!), and promptly ordered for one. They have a chocolate dipping station (two types of hot dips) and a variety of nutty toppings. (Fresh pistachio was our favorite).

The staff were warm and polite and they even gave us a sneak peak of how their ice cream is made. Sophisticated machines are specially brought in from Italy to  make their special mix. The kitchen housed fresh strawberries, mangoes and other summer fruits, which further reaffirmed our faith in its natural flavors.

It was serendipitous that we managed to stumble upon Stick House. We are yet to try the strawberry cheese, pineapple and lemon sorbet flavors, among others. They also have gelato milkshakes which we plan on trying out soon.

Truth be told, we are tired of the same ol' franchises here, and this place made for a refreshing change, with its natural, home-made spread. You can never go wrong with gelato! Come rain or shine, we will frequent this place, for sure!
